The inaugural session of ECCB Digital Dialogues was held under the theme: Pandemic and Digital Currency on 2 June 2020.
Background
One aspect of life that has experienced significant disruption as a result of the pandemic is financial services, as customers have had to contend with potential health risks from transacting with physical cash and the challenges of accessing the payments system in a period of limited banking services.
The panel of experts focused their discussions on the possibilities offered by the ECCB’s digital EC currency project for meeting the payments needs of residents of the ECCU. They also explored the project’s potential to have a broader transformative impact on the payments landscape in the region and for the development of a digital economy.
