Painted $1.00 Coin

In observance of the 50th Anniversary of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Authority (ECCA) banknotes, the ECCB put into circulation a limited quantity of painted commemorative circulation $1 coins.  The coins were issued in October 2015 as a part of the 2015 Financial Information Month (FIM) activities and will not be redeemable from commercial banks.

The coins are the exact shape and size of the existing circulation $1 coin and bear some of the features of the ECCA $1.00 banknote.  The obverse carries the usual IRB portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

According to our suppliers, the Royal Canadian Mint, the coin used pad printing technology which represented the next step in the evolution of painted coins, with a greater resistance to wear and tear.  They further stated that the coin is the second coin in the world using this technology, and the 1st in the western and northern hemispheres.
