The Dove

Anguilla has a mostly craggy shoreline with over thirty white sand beaches receding in inland depression. Rolling hills with granite rock covered mostly by shrubs, give way to red dirt bottoms and white clay flatlands, the highest elevation, Crocus Hill (213 ft) is easily reached by foot, cycle or car.The island was colonised by the British in 1650 and enjoyed self rule until the early 1800's when it was administered from the neighbouring island of St Kitts. Unilateral Independence was declared in 1967 and Anguilla officially separated from St Kitts on December 19, 1980.
