The Grenada Edition of the ECCB’s 40th Anniversary Lecture Series will be moderated by media personality and event host, Ms. Brenda Baptiste.

Speakers
Dr Angus Friday is an international island economy development specialist helping to finance island nations by sustainably harnessing their natural assets and comparative advantages. A qualified medical doctor with an MBA, Angus represented Grenada as its Ambassador to the United Nations, and to the United States[1], Canada, Mexico and the Organization of American States. In addition to developing the Atlantean program, he currently serves as the Blue Economy Director at the San Diego based Waitt Institute[2] where he advises governments on ocean and coastal economic strategies that support island nations in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans. During COVID-19, Angus served on economic advisory committees to provide recommendations to the Government of Grenada. He also served as chairman of the parliamentary mandated Fiscal Responsibility Oversight Committee. While at the World Bank he served as the Bank’s Oceans Representative representing the institution’s $1.2 billion ocean-related portfolio. In addition, he helped to raise $29.5 million from bilateral donors (Denmark and Japan) for island nations[3]. Latterly he assisted Grenada in securing $30 million USD from the World Bank, as part of the ‘First Fiscal Resilience and Blue Growth Development Policy Credit’ in concessionary funding under IDA-18[4]. Having conceived the program, he helped Jamaica’s Prime Minister and Sir Richard Branson launch the Caribbean Climate Smart Accelerator in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank and other international entities[5]. In his earlier entrepreneurial career Angus founded and sold two medical informatics companies while living in London, and also advised Scottish regional development agencies on bioinformatics and marine science strategies. Richard W. Duncan, OBE is a retired Banker and former Managing Director of Grenada Co-operative Bank Ltd. Richard holds a BSc. (Economic & Accounting, UWI), M.A. (Public Administration, Carleton University); he is a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant; and Fellow Certified General Accountant; and an Associate of the Institute of Canadian Bankers; he is an Accredited Director and a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada. An Economist and Accountant, he joined Grenada Co-operative Bank Limited in 1996 as its Financial Manager. He previously worked in the Grenada Public Service in the areas of Public Policy Analysis, Debt Management, Public Finance and Public Sector Investment Programming. Richard has made meaningful contributions to the discourse on public and private finance, banking and bank regulation in the OECS, as a presenter, writer and discussant at several regional and sub-regional conferences and seminars. In 2008 he was honoured as a Distinguished Graduate of the University of the West Indies in commemoration of its 60th Anniversary for his contribution to financial services; and in 2022 he accepted the award of Officer of the British Empire (OBE) from Queen Elizabeth II for his services to Banking in Grenada. He serves on several Boards. His current directorships include Chairman of Grenada Citizenship by Investment Committee; Director of Caribbean Financial Services Corporation; and Eastern Caribbean Partial Credit Guarantee Corporation. He gives back to the Community at home and abroad as a Rotarian, being a past President; he is Chairman of the UWI Open Campus Finance Committee; and is a member of the OECS Nomination Committee of the Anthony N. Sabga Caribbean Awards for Excellence. He is married to Petal with one daughter. |
