Venture Capital Seminar Opens St Kitts

Basseterre, St Kitts, May 29, 2003 Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, Sir K Dwight Venner says that currency stability, a sound banking system and low inflation provide ECCU countries with a comparative advantage over many of their regional partners, and the platform for confronting the challenges in the current financial and economic environment. He was addressing the opening ceremony of a venture capital seminar at the St Kitts Marriott Hotel on May 28, 2003. The Governor indicated that as the countries design and implement a programme of orderly, purposeful and strategic adjustments and develop new business models to transform the economies, it would be necessary to maximise economies of scale, mitigate risks and make efficient use of resources. The creation of the single financial space in the ECCU would call for not only the amalgamation of existing financial institutions, but also highly qualified and motivated individuals, able to offer alternative financial services. The venture capital seminar, he noted, was intended to focus the attention of the sixty participants from OECS and CARICOM countries on new approaches to the conduct of business, and to explore alternative financing and management possibilities.
