Basseterre, St Kitts 6 October 2006 Thursday 5 October 2006 was an important milestone in the history of the Eastern Caribbean countries, marking forty-one years since introduction of the EC currency. The EC currency, which is issued and managed by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, continues to be a source of stability for the people of the ECCU, having been pegged to the US dollar at a rate of 2.7 to 1, since 1976.
