Tax Reform And Administration Commission To Meet In Anguilla

Basseterre, St Kitts, October 25, 2002 The Tax Reform and Administration Commission will continue to review the revenue systems in member countries, with a series of meetings scheduled to take place in Anguilla on October 30 to November 1, 2002. The Commission, which is mandated to examine the revenue system and to recommend new approaches to taxation and its administration, will apprise the Financial Secretaries of the Currency Union on the progress of work of the Tax Commission, and tax reform issues particularly related to implementation of the transactions-based tax. In its business session, the Commission will discuss the contents of a draft interim report. The Commission will also hold consultations with the Executive Council, representatives of both the private and public sectors, and the Leader of the Opposition. The discussions will focus on issues relating to the growth prospects for the economies of the Currency Union, and the appropriate revenue system to support the economy. The Tax Commission was formed in January 2002. Since that time Commissioners have met with officials in Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis, St Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada.
