St Kitts/Nevis Dominates ECCB Essay Competition
Basseterre, September 14, 2001 One student from Nevis and two students from St. Kitts were among the top prize winners of the 2001 Essay Competition organised by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. Amica Liburd of the Charlestown Secondary School, Nevis placed first, winning a student grant of EC$5000. Her school Charlestown Secondary will receive EC$2000 as well as EC$1000 for submitting the most entries. The Kittitian second and third place winners were Melissa Q. Edwards, the entrant from Basseterre High School, and Samal Duggins of Verchilds High School. Edwards and Duggins will receive EC$2500 and EC$2000 respectively, while their schools will receive EC$1500 and EC$1000 respectively. Miss Liburd will be invited to travel to Grenada in November to attend the Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture to receive her prize. As part of its community outreach programme, the Bank invited OECS students between the ages of 15-18 years to address the topic What are the development implications for ECCB member countries of the increasing rate of HIV/AIDS infection and how can our countries deal with this problem?
