Researchers to Explore Economic Reform in the Caribbean

Basseterre, St Kitts November 19 , 2003 The Caribbean Centre for Monetary Studies (CCMS) in collaboration with Eastern Caribbean Central Bank will be hosting the 35th Annual Monetary Studies Conference, at the ECCB Headquarters in St Kitts, from November 24 to 28, 2003. The conference brings together regional and extra-regional technocrats, academics and financial sector representatives to share ideas and experiences, with a view to increasing the knowledge base in the Caribbean region. This year, the theme of the Conference will be Economic Reform: Towards a Programme for the Resuscitation of Economic Growth and Development in the Caribbean. Several sub-themes have been developed to guide the deliberations and provide avenues for meaningful dialogue between regional and international policy-makers. These include: The Theoretical Foundations of Economic Reform, The Role of Labour Market Issues; The Political Economy of Economic Reform, Regional Integration and Economic Reform, and Financial Regulatory Issues. The proceedings will be opened by the Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, Sir K Dwight Venner, and the opening address will be delivered by Dr the Hon Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister, Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis. Dr. Delisle Worrell, Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados, will deliver the 20th Annual Adlith Brown Memorial Lecture.
