OECS Governments To Benefit From Debt Workshop

A Commonwealth Secretariat Debt Record Management System (CS-DRMS) workshop opened this morning (22 October 2003) at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium at the ECCB Headquarters in Basseterre. The workshop is geared towards upgrading analytical and decision-making skills and broadening the knowledge base of personnel employed in the area of public sector debt management. While addressing the Opening Ceremony, Sir K Dwight Venner, Governor of the ECCB, stressed the need for the member governments of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to collectively review their debt management practices, in order to minimise the mismatch between revenue and expenditure streams, and the cost of debt. He highlighted the importance of active debt management within the respective Ministries of Finance, and the formulation of the necessary regulatory action plans that are geared towards adhering to established targets for sustainable growth and development.
