Inaugural Private Sector Consultative Group Meeting Ends

Basseterre, St Kitts, July 11, 2003 Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, Sir K Dwight Venner says he is pleased with the level of discussions with the Private Sector Consultative Group, comprised of individuals who are all highly respected professionals in their chosen fields, and whom he expects to make significant contributions to the consultative process. The two-day dialogue highlighted the challenges facing the various sectors, examined the requirements of the sectors and proposed ways in which private sector entities, governments and the Central Bank could collaborate on the transformation of the economies of the ECCU. At the conclusion of the discussions, all parties agreed that the meeting was a valuable learning experience. The Private Sector Consultative Group, established by the Monetary Council of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, is intended to provide the private sector perspective to economic policy formulation. The members are: Mr John Benjamin from Anguilla, representing the tourism sector; Mr Wigley George, Antigua and Barbuda, for the trade unions; Dr Donovan Robinson, Dominica for agriculture; Mr Henry Joseph, Grenada, for accounting; Mr Kenneth Cassell, Montserrat for construction; Mr Kishu Chandiramani, Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis, distribution; Mr Laurie Barnard, St Lucia, manufacturing; Mr Ronald Jack, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, representing the legal profession and Ms Chris Girard of St Lucia, Information Communication Technology.
