Euro Banknotes and Coins

Basseterre, January 4, 2002 The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) wishes to advise the general public that following the introduction by the European Central Bank of the Euro banknotes and coins on January 1, 2002, the ECCB will cease to accept French Francs, Italian Lira, Netherlands Guilders and Deutsche Marks from commercial banks, with effect from Wednesday, January 9, 2002. Members of the public should therefore ensure that any currencies they are holding from countries participating in the European Central Bank are returned to commercial banks prior to the deadline, in order to obtain value.
