ECCB to host Webinar on Pandemic and Universal Health Coverage

The ECCB will host a webinar on 27 August titled 'Pandemic and Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented challenge which has stretched many health care systems and economies.  The pandemic also raises questions about the strength of health systems, and how this sector contributes to the resilience of economies including those of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU).  A key aspect of this discussion on the strength of health systems and resilience, is that of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).  UHC is a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3.8), which seeks to provide quality healthcare services to all persons without creating financial hardship.

The discussion will focus on UHC as a policy goal for several member countries and the role which it plays in strengthening their social protection frameworks.  Additionally, the panel will examine the fiscal implications of National Health Insurance as a financing mechanism while drawing from country experiences to provide practical insight for policy makers and the citizens of the ECCU.

The panelists for the session will be;

  •  Dr Stanley Lalta, Health Economics Unit, UWI St Augustine Campus,
  • Dr Anton Cumberbatch, Advisor, Health Economics Unit, UWI St Augustine Campus, and
  • Dr Kester Nedd, Founder, Chairman and CEO, JIPA Networks LLC.

Chief Director (Policy) at the ECCB, D Tracy Polius will moderate the discussion.
