ECCB supports formation of an OECS Robotics Association
Joint News Release by the OECS Commission and the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank
Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), Timothy N. J. Antoine and other officials of the ECCB met with representatives of The OECS Commission and Founder of the Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis Robotics Association, Dr Ricardo Neil on Wednesday, 28 October to set in motion a plan to establish an OECS Robotics Association.
This initiative follows the successful launch of the St. Kitts and Nevis Robotics Association in September 2020. According to Governor Antoine: “it is an opportunity to invest in our youth; plant entrepreneurial seeds and to increase support for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) careers”.
The promotion and expansion of STEM/STEAM education and skills is vital to the build out of a digital economy for our region. Students who pursue STEM/STEAM careers learn to think critically and solve problems collaboratively. They are challenged to examine problems faced in their communities and develop products that will improve the lives of the people of our region.
An OECS Robotics Association would help harness and unleash the talent of our youth as our region seeks to build a stronger and more resilient post-pandemic economy and society.
To advance this initiative, a regional meeting of experts in all aspects of Technology will soon be convened to discuss a plan of action.
