ECCB Governor’s Country Outreach Mission Moves to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
The Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Timothy N. J. Antoine is continuing his 2022 round of Country Outreach Missions with a visit to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Governor Antoine and his delegation commenced their engagements on 12 September, with a visit to the C.W. Prescod Primary School, the ECCB Mentorship School. The delegation was treated to a grand welcome ceremony, which included entertaining renditions from students on pan and through a choral speech, which captured what the ECCB means to the youth and the people of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU).
The ECCB Primary School Mentorship Programme was launched in October 2007. The programme targets students in Grades 4-6 from eight primary schools, one in each ECCB member country. The programme provides the students with mentorship and financial education during their last three years of primary school.
The Governor and his delegation paid a courtesy call on the Governor General Her Excellency Dame Susan Dougan on 14 September. The Governor General commended the ECCB for maintaining the stability of the ECCU financial system and the Eastern Caribbean (EC) currency. She noted that over the years, the EC Dollar had never been devalued. Her Excellency also encouraged the Governor and staff of the ECCB to let “service” be their watchword.
The Governor and his delegation continued their engagements with a presentation to the members of Cabinet. The Governor delivered a presentation titled: “Transitioning from Recovery to Resilience.” The presentation focussed on international and regional economic developments; developments in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; and the role of the ECCB in regional development.
The Governor and his delegation later held discussions with the Honourable Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Godwin Friday and other members of the Opposition.
Today, the ECCB team is meeting with social partners inclusive of business, labour unions, churches and youth. They will also meet with bankers and media practitioners.
The Country Outreach Mission will conclude later this evening with Conversation with the Governor, a live interview, which will be broadcast on SVG Television, NBC Radio, and the VC3 and ECCB Connects Facebook pages and YouTube channels. During the broadcast, Governor Antoine will take questions from the audience. The public is encouraged to call or send questions via telephone number 1-784-493-9861 and the ECCB’s social media platforms.
The ECCB’s delegation to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines comprises: Director of the Research, Statistics and Data Analytics Department, Teresa Smith; Head of the Advisory Services Unit in the Governor’s Immediate Office, Dr. Emefa Seworda, and Acting Director of the Corporate Relations Department, Shermalon Kirby.
As part of his 2022 round of Country Outreach Missions, the Governor visited Anguilla in May, Montserrat in June and Saint Lucia in July.
