ECCB Expands Use of DCash in ECCU
The people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are next in line to benefit from a safer, faster, cheaper way to pay for goods and services with the imminent launch of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank’s (ECCB) DCash; the digital version of the EC dollar.
Speaking on this week’s episode of ECCB Connects, DCash Team Member (Merchant Lead), Sybil Welsh, says with DCash, the ECCB is seeking to foster financial inclusion. She advises small merchants to use the DCash platform to expand their customer base, noting that DCash is offering opportunities, access, affordability and inclusion.
DCash Team Member (Agency Lead), Kechewia Charles, says that SVG is cash-intensive as a large number of transactions and payments are done using cash. She says DCash offers a safer alternative as people would not need to walk around with much physical cash.
RBTT Bank Ltd Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is one of the first financial institutions on the ground to be DCash ready. Country Manager, Vonetta Rodgers says her institution has made all the necessary arrangements and capacity building of staff in preparation for the DCash launch as they recognise the benefits of cheaper and faster transactions it offers to clients in SVG.
