ECCB Continues to Invest in Young Regional Innovators
The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) continues to partner with the Caribbean Science Foundation (CSF) to groom the next generation of science, engineering, technology and business leaders in the region through the Student Programme for Innovation, Science and Engineering (SPISE).
For the past five years, the ECCB has sponsored the participation of students from across the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union who are gifted in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in the annual intensive, four-week summer CSF programme.
Through the SPISE programme, the CSF hopes to address the low numbers of Caribbean students pursuing advanced degrees in science and engineering in the short-term, and to help to diversify the economies of the region by stimulating more technology-based entrepreneurship, in the longer-term.
During the internship period, the students who are between ages 16-18, are usually the top in STEM in the region; and are engaged in university level calculus, physics, biochemistry, entrepreneurship and Caribbean unity as well as hands on projects in computer programming, robotics and/or electronic/renewable energy.
Four of the ECCB sponsored candidates share how their participation in the SPISE programme, has better positioned them to jumpstart their careers in science, technology and engineering. Keeghan Patrick, Ajonté Josiah, Najeh Francis and Pavana Dalsou, share their experiences on this week’s ECCB Connects.
